Glassblowers of Old Cairo
"Fire is dangerous, but it is also pure. It takes what was broken and makes it whole again."
In the narrow alleys of the City of the Dead, the ancient art of glassblowing is kept alive by a handful of families. These workshops are hot, loud, and magical.
Using recycled glass collected from across the city, these artisans melt the shards in roaring furnaces. With a long pipe and a breath of air, they transform molten blobs into delicate carafes, tumblers, and lamps.
This practice is not only a testament to skill but also to sustainability. It is a cycle of renewal—taking waste and turning it into something of beauty and utility.
